Anyway, Deandra is a character I drew
that had a little cha-ching in her pocket. Looking at her original
design she reminds me a lot of the Amy Poehler character from Mean
Girls. You guys, Deandra's not a regular mom, she's a cool mom.
*Wink*
That movie came out in 2004, a little
too late for me to be interested in a teen movie and way way too late
to have actually influenced this character. I guess she was more just
based on the parents of certain friends that I had or, more
accurately, the parents of some of the friends my brother had (little
social climber that he was).
For the redraw I tried to think about
what the current cultural touchstone for clueless rich women is in
our society and I of course went right to The Real Housewives of Who
Fucking Cares Because They are all the Same.
So I put her in housewife-esque short
and tight dress and added lots of gold jewelry (my favorite*), and
finally finished her off with a hairstyle one might describe as
“fussy”. Oh, also I decided to make her the trainwreck of her
season with her boob tape showing as an example. No Deandra, I think
you've had enough chardonnay! I also gave her some cankles, because
what are those real housewife women if not human**?
Art tips: I am trying to work on
realistic clothing wrinkles. Like I discussed last time, I think I
just learned to draw people so smoothly because that is what appealed
to me t the time. Since then I have come to embrace bumps and bulges
and wrinkles so I'm having to learn a lot of new stuff.
