Tbt #3: Rindel Cross

When I first came across this drawing I was confused as to why I have kept it all these years. Her name is interesting, which I know played a key part. But her design is a bit pedestrian and I don't really think there is anything special about her. But then thinking back to my teen self, and how I viewed the world then, it became apparent why I held on to her.

Tbt #2: Bridget Bliss

I have a fascination with twins. I think it stemmed from too many Sweet Valley High books as a kid, plus the fact I never really knew anyone who was a twin (it is easy to romanticize something that has never been encountered). So they are a theme that I often visited. Real often.

Tbt #1: Kitty

I have a binder full of women. It sits in a drawer in my art studio containing a few hundred paper dolls, all a decade or older, all locked in place under plastic photo protector pages. These dolls, an obsession of mine as a tween and teen, represent but a small fraction of the original collection. Originally around 600 or so cut and labeled individuals, this collection wasn’t merely a bunch of pretty lady dolls. No, they had names, personalities, and back stories. Most of the dolls I no longer have were of spouses,
boyfriends, family members, and offspring. They weren’t just fashion dolls- they were people.

I was a weird kid, y'all.

Intro to Me

I'm a curious person. I want to know things- about people, places, stuff. I think that this is a positive trait in people, though it can lead to some bad behaviors like nosiness or the inability to shut up. At its best though, a sense of inquisitiveness is the basis for learning and right now if you have traveled all the way back to the beginning of my blog to read this essay then I am guessing you might share this trait with me.

I too want to learn everything there is to know about someone when I make a new acquaintance, be it online or not. If you have stumbled back in time to do the same in regards to me rest assured that I am not about to let you down.

My name is Haley. My business' name is Accidentally Awesome. This is my blog.

Welcome.

If you check out my Etsy business you will see that I am an artist and craftsperson. I dabble in many different mediums- this, while fun for me, makes it hard for me to create a "brand" for myself. Hopefully between my shop and my blog I have begun to craft an idea of who I am that people will understand.

The idea (rather than brand) of myself that I want to put forth is that I am an artist who likes bright colors and patterns, who likes to experiment and try new things (hence my business name- because sometimes it seems like the stuff I create that is good is just stumbled onto). I have a specific drawing style and I like to draw the human form. I mostly draw women.

As a person I am emotional. I feel things deeply. I have come to embrace the fact that there is a key factor of being "cool" that I will never be able to achieve because I just cannot not care about things. I am not nonchalant. I am not casual. I am intense and passionate. I believe the things I believe very deeply and while it would be totally stupid to say that I could never change my mind about something I do have a lot of evidence that says certain parts of me have been the way that they are since birth and will not change anytime soon.

Because of those factors while reading my blog, you might now always agree with what I have to say. And also, since what I do is also visual, you might not agree with my style or taste either. That's ok. There's room for everyone.

Just remember that I am just a person- a thirty something woman who lives in Fort Smith Arkansas with her husband and her four cats and two dogs. I'm making art to help support my little family, to express myself, and to have some measure of control over my life. I'm just trying my best like everyone else.

I hope that if you are like me you can discover a kindred spirit here on this blog. I hope that if you aren't you can at least appreciate my pretty pictures. I hope that you will share my work with others regardless because, again, supporting my family and all that. But most of all, I hope you enjoy yourself when looking at my stuff because what I'm realy trying to do here at the end of the day is entertain others.

Perhaps this intro has now let you in a little bit on who I am and what I'm up too here. More can be discovered Im sure as you read my other pieces. However, as a final parting piece of personal trivia I will now leave you with this factoid about myself:

Juggalo for lyfe! WOOP WOOP!*

Peace out,

Haley

*Not really, wouldn't that be awful?
